A 2-year-old boy found dead in a creek early Saturday may have been thrown there by his own father as he fled the scene of a road mishap in the northwest of Massachusettsthe police reported.

Clarksburg police and firefighters pulled the boy from the creek and took him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to a preliminary police investigation, the boy’s father, a 35-year-old man from Readsboro, Vermont, likely dropped him into a waterway as he fled the scene on foot.
The man was found nearby and was taken into custody and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of a toxic substance. Police said additional charges related to the boy’s death are expected.
