Elliot Page improvised a 53-minute scene in his new film and talks about the trans experience in Hollywood – The USA Print

It had been six years since we had seen him in a project for the big screen and it transcends his hard work of improvisation, as he reports through a new interview with Varietystating that he performed a 53-minute scene for director Dominic Savage.

This was absolutely exciting every day. Because of the process, I’ve never done anything like this before. The script has a description and only that. There is no dialogue. You enter each scene totally naked. I found him incredibly intimidating before filming. I thought, ‘I’m going to be a big disappointment to Dominic. What am I doing? I can’t improvise!’ Our longest take was 53 minutes. It’s like a dance. You are really existing in it. I got tired in a few moments but I felt incredibly excited.

The interviewer also questioned Page about whether you had the opportunity to prepare in advance for this specific project. The 36-year-old actor admitted with a laugh that it wasn’t like that:

No, and that was the part that fascinated me. When we were developing it, (Hillary and I) discussed little things, but not many. I’m so used to approaching work a certain way… very scripted and everything is set up. Then I thought, “How does Dominic do this?” The next thing you know, you have completely disappeared from the scene as if you had entered a different dimension. The joy of acting this way is that it wasn’t just a two-minute take that we did a couple of times. They were very long and lived experiences.

Variety also addressed the issue of the trans experience of Elliot Page in the film industry, emphasizing what the actor wrote in his memoirs, Pageboy. In the text he reveals how difficult it was always for him to wear a dress on red carpets, so now he always tries to connect with himself using what he wants: “Now I can enjoy every aspect of my life more because I can finally talk about who I am.” . “It’s a beautiful feeling.”
