The Film Academy Summer Campus began its third edition this Sunday, June 16 in Valencia, a city where, for two weeks, the eight selected directors will receive advice and training so that their projects delve into the portrait of the diversity in the best possible way.

The vice president of the Film Academy, Rafael Portela; the head of the Public Policy department at Netflix in Spain and Portugal, Esperanza Ibáñez; and Enric Pardo, Netflix Series Manager, welcomed the filmmakers selected in this third edition, which seeks to increase the inclusion of diversity in Spanish cinema.

“The Campus is a very exciting and very special project for the Academy because it is unlike any other in Spanish audiovisuals. This initiative responds to the need for our cinema to be richer and more diverse,” commented the vice president of the institution during the opening session, according to the Academy’s press release.

Along the same lines were the statements of Esperanza Ibáñez, who stressed that, “it is very important to be able to count on you, who put passion into everything you do. We look forward to seeing how you work on your projects that talk about diversity, which is something very important.”

The creators Beatriz Mbula, Sara Bamba, Hajar Boujtat, Anxos Fazáns, Sonia Martí Gallego, Marta Ambel, Dave Jackson and Ignacio Acconcia will receive advice over the next few days from the filmmakers Estíbaliz Urresola Solaguren, Manuel Martín Cuenta, Anna R. Costa and Pablo Remón , among others. The mentors attended the inauguration of this initiative organized by the Film Academy with the collaboration of Netflix and the support of the Valencia City Council, which always gives space to the city’s audiovisual talent. In fact, one of the participants, Beatriz Mbula, is a native of the city.

The programming of this development initiative of the Film Academy will also be open to residents and visitors of the city. Thus, in the coming days the Caixa Fórum in the capital of Turia will host meetings open to the public with professionals from the audiovisual industry. In addition, on June 26 there will be a screening of the film Campeonexby Javier Fesser, which will be followed by a meeting with part of the acting cast.
