Whatever health issue or injury Drew McIntyre is dealing with, it started before last Sunday’s WWE WrestleMania 39 match.
The update comes courtesy of Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, who first reported that McIntyre did not work on SmackDown due to a “health issue.”
McIntyre wrestled last Sunday in a loss to WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther and Sheamus in a physical title match. It’s not yet clear how long it will be out or when the problem first occurred.
Meltzer said that McIntyre’s absence is not due to contract talks between him and WWE even though the news broke last week. Meltzer said the two are “nowhere near a money amount,” but the contract expiration date is a long way off.
Regarding the speculation that McIntyre might go to AEW and appear at Wembley Stadium in August for All In, Meltzer didn’t think that was contractually possible.
