Donald Trump thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the flattery he gave him about his interest in ending the Russian war against Ukraine, and whose plans include the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.

“It is true that we hear Mr. Trump saying that he will resolve urgent problems in a few days, including the Ukraine crisis. “This cannot but make us happy, this is good,” said the Russian president during a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum, on September 12.

The former US president said, in an interview with NBC broadcast this Sunday, that he “liked” that Putin had made those statements.

“That means what I’m saying is correct. I would take him (Putin) to a room, I would take Zelensky to a room. Then he would bring them together and they would have reached an agreement. He would come to an agreement. “It would have been much easier before (the war) started,” he said.

The Republican did not want to talk about the details of his strategy because he fears losing all his tricks for negotiation.

“If I explain it to you exactly, I lose all my negotiating trumps, but I would say certain things to Putin and I would say certain things to Zelenskywith whom I get along well,” he told journalist Kristen Welker.

But he did clarify that will not promote a negotiation that allows Putin to keep Ukrainian territory which he has occupied since February 2022, violently and illegally.

“It would close a fair deal for everyone. I would make it fair,” she emphasized.

Putin had also assured at the forum that United States policy towards Russia will not change if Donald Trump wins the Presidency of that country in November 2024. And he recalled that it was the Republican leader who applied more sanctions to Russia when he was in the White House. between 2017 and 2021.
