Dominican entrepreneurs will go to the US as YLAI scholarship holders

The Embassy of the United States announced this Wednesday that six Dominican entrepreneurs participate this year as scholarship holders of the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI for its acronym in English), the Department of State. These six young Dominican leaders have been accepted among more than 1,800 applicants at the regional level.

“Since 2015, the program YLAI empowers entrepreneurs from the western hemisphere to support the growth and economic development in the region”, highlighted the US Embassy in a statement.

According to information from the diplomatic mission, this year the program will bring together 280 young leaders from 37 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean and Canada.

The program began with a virtual curriculum on business leadership, and now in May, the fellows will be divided into cohorts and will travel to 19 cities in the United States for four-week internships in American companies, the Embassy explained.

“They will collaborate with their peers to address shared business challenges and will participate in intercultural events and activities,” he added.

He also noted that since the launch of the program, 23 Dominican entrepreneurs have been YLAI scholarship holders and apply this experience in their communities in Bahoruco, Puerto Plata, Samaná, San Cristóbal, Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo.

“The Government of the United States is committed to supporting the economic growth of the Dominican Republic, and implements various programs to promote education and entrepreneurship”the statement stressed.
