Over the past few years, Uruguayan soccer player Diego Godin has risen as one of the most important sports figures in his country thanks to his impressive professional career. which he carried out in the Spanish League by playing a total of 389 official matches and gaining a role of great importance within Atlético de Madrid commanded by the Argentine Diego ‘Cholo’ Simeone.
In a recent interview with Diario AS, the Uruguayan player spoke about his retirement and the great love he will always have for the Uruguayan team and Atlético de Madrid, teams with which he became one of the most important figures in the entire America and one of the most outstanding in Europe due to its high level of competition.
“I have been very happy being a footballer and I will always say that I am, but I am enjoying this new stage of my life to death. I want to enjoy my wife and my three-month-old daughter because my body asked me to. Obviously I feel nostalgic and I miss it, but I know it was the right decision because I no longer felt that extreme desire to compete. You have to know when to stop ”, he emphasized when talking about what it means for him to formally leave the soccer fields to take a new stage in his life.
“Those who know me know that there is no chance (opportunity) that I am not a coach. My priority now is to have time for my family and myself. I don’t see myself in hotels, traveling and far from them,” Godin emphasized in his statements.
Finally, Godin assured that he will always be available for whatever Atlético de Madrid needs and stressed that he will always be willing to return to the pitch to support the colchoneros at any charity match or meeting of legends that is destined for a greater good.
“If Atleti calls me, they know that I will always be there for what they ask of me. My site is on the green and that is something that in the long term I will not be able to stop ”, concluded the Uruguayan soccer player in his interview.
