David Yates, director of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts, does not rule out returning to the franchise – The USA Print

The world of Harry Potter is one of the most beloved in the world, and it is one that has survived several scandals, including those of its own creator. JK Rowling’s saga continues to sell very well and the cast of the films continues to enjoy and deal with the fame they found at an early age thanks to these productions. Discovery announced months ago that they hoped to develop new adaptations of the novels, news that greatly divided fans. Rowling’s novels became incredibly popular overnight, and they seemed like the perfect mix between a very complete fantasy saga and an author who fought against all possible adversities to make it a reality. In this way, the creator’s name was as important as the novels themselves, and for years she remained one of the most beloved and respected writers in the literary industry. Turning the adventures of the boy wizard into films was the most obvious step, but as with many similar works, it was very easy for everything to end badly.

In the end, a key point in the films becoming a huge box office success was that the production company kept Rowling close, who made certain demands to let them adapt her work, including that the production remain in the United Kingdom and will not move to Hollywood. Harry potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – 80% premiered in 2001 and became a spectacle that Warner Bros. Discovery will now seek to replicate with the remake it is already preparing of the novels and which could arrive in television format, it is said, to do justice to each part of the books that were lost in the movies due to time issues.

Harry Potter could still be a hit for Warner Bros. Discovery

After the success of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I – 78% and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II – 96%, Warner knew well that the gold mine was coming to an end, so they took advantage of other canon texts to greenlight a prequel that became Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – 73%. This film starring Eddie Redmayne worked well enough to approve its own franchise and at that time no one expected that Rowling’s reputation would suddenly change. After fans of this world distanced themselves from the author due to her transphobic comments, the company saw how her investment was in danger and the failure of Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets. 50% at the box office was the clearest proof.

Since David Zaslav arrived at Warner Bros. Discovery, many things have changed in terms of the company’s hierarchies, its productions and even its future plans. For now it is not known if the Fantastic Beasts saga will continue as planned, or if it will remain incomplete and forgotten so that the production company can focus on Harry Potter, and they know well that although the fans are upset with Rowling, they will still spend their time and money in this world that they love so much and that meant an important point in their lives.

Now that the remake is a fact, many fans are wondering if Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint will return in some form, although none of them seem really interested. Likewise, some others wonder if certain creators of the original saga will return to support these productions, such as David Yateswho joined the franchise with Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix – 79% and was in charge of the films Fantastic Animals. In interview with deadline (via ScreenRant), the director responded whether or not he would return to these films:

Know? I started Potter in 2005. And it’s been an incredible journey. We made the last one, you know, ‘Dumbledore’s Secrets,’ during the pandemic, before the vaccine, so we were filming that movie without vaccines. And that took its toll, it was a very difficult journey to achieve. I have enormous affection for them, and they are a lovely group of people, I love them all, but we haven’t had conversations since we finished it. It was like, ‘let’s park and be done for a while.’

Although the director hopes to find new stories for his career, he does not rule out a return to this fantasy world at all:

So, never say never, I would say, but I’m very excited to move on, I loved making Pain Hustlers, I have other projects on my desk that are a million miles away from wizards and involve all kinds of things that aren’t associated with magicians, so, having said that, you know, it’s been fantastic, making these films has been a real pleasure, never say never, but for a while I’ll be exploring other things.

Warner Bros. Discovery will seek to give Rowling more creative space, which could definitely alienate some creators and actors who decide not to get involved so as not to associate with the author. However, others will have no problem with that, so it won’t be long before we see how this new production proceeds.
