Australian Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) and Spanish-Cuban Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) were nominated in the best actress category for the 95th edition of the Oscars, the Hollywood Academy announced Tuesday.

The other finalists in this section are Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once), Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans“) and Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie“).

Judging by the awards season so far, the top favorite to win this award is Blanchett, a Critics Choice winner and Golden Globe winner for best actress in a drama.

Blanchett’s performance, who is nominated for the award for playing the conductor Lydia Tár, could earn her her third Oscar after having received the statuette for best supporting actress for “The Aviator” (2005) and as a lead for “Blue Jasmine”. ” (2014).

Although the surprise could come with De Armas, who has achieved the nomination thanks to his role in the biopic “Blonde”, by Australian director Andrew Dominik, where he puts himself in the shoes of Marylin Monroe.

At 60, Malaysian Michelle Yeoh could become the first Asian woman to win an Oscar for best actress thanks to the comedy “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert.

Yeoh has already been recognized at the Golden Globes for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy and has also received a mention for the British BAFTAs.

For her part, Michelle Williams had not been nominated in this category of the Academy Awards since 2012, curiously also her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the film “My Week With Marilyn”. In 2017, she was shortlisted for Best Supporting Actress for “Manchester by the Sea”, but she did not win.

On this occasion, Williams has achieved mention for his participation in “The Fabelmans”, Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical film.

Despite not appearing in most forecasts, the British actress Andrea Riseborough has slipped into the final list of candidates for best female performance with the unsuccessful “To Leslie”, in which she plays an alcoholic mother from Texas who wins the lottery

The winners of the 95th edition of the Oscars will be announced on March 12 at a ceremony held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
