Bertín Osborne cancels his upcoming concert in Valencia and the rest of the tour due to vocal problems | Culture

The singer and presenter Bertín Osborne has suspended his summer tour due to health problems. The concert he was scheduled to give at the Viveros Gardens in Valencia on the 21st as part of the Gran Feria de Julio programme will be the first performance cancelled “due to a post-covid problem” as a result of which he has been advised to rest his voice, confirmed a spokesperson for the company Contra-tame, who assured that “it affects all his subsequent commitments”. The artist is cancelling a concert for which fewer than 200 of the 2,000 tickets that were released at the box office had been sold to date.

Osborne, after going on stage, also suspended his performance on June 13 in the Madrid town of San Agustín de Guadalix alleging technical problems, although some of the attendees acknowledged on the Antena 3 program Public mirror that there was hardly any audience.

The Valencia City Council had no confirmation on Wednesday morning of the suspension of the concert, which the program announced Now SonsolesOn the website where tickets for the Viveros Concerts are sold, tickets were still on sale during the first half of the day, but in the afternoon the organisation issued a statement announcing the cancellation of the performance.

Criticized musical selection

Bertín Osborne was scheduled to perform at the July Fair alongside a long list of artists, including Sergio Dalma, Luz Casal, Niña Pastori, Taburete, Camela, Los Zigarros and Carlos Vives, among others. A selection that has been criticised by some political sectors of the city, who missed groups and music in Valencian as in previous editions given that the July Fair is funded with municipal funds.

A few weeks ago, the municipal group Compromís asked the Valencia Councillor for Festivals, Mónica Gil, from Vox, responsible for the Viveros concerts, about the tickets sold up to then. And from the response, dated May 27, it was deduced that one of the artists who, in principle, seemed to have a greater pull among the Valencian public had barely sold just over 5% of the expected capacity. At present, some 155 tickets have been sold, according to municipal sources.

As soon as the cancellation of the tour was announced, Compromís councillor Pere Fuset proposed to the government headed by María José Catalá, from the PP and Vox, that it organise a “festival of music in Valencian” in the gap left by Osborne, a free concert with Valencian groups, “taking advantage of the fact that this infrastructure is already paid for with public money”. Now, the Valencianists want to take advantage of this opportunity to resolve “an unfinished business”, which is more than evident, such as the lack of commitment to Valencian culture, and in particular to music in Valencian.
