Barcelona wants to return to the Camp Nou. “We want to play at home and return to the neighborhood as quickly as possible,” said Elena Fort, vice president of Barça’s institutional area. The problem is that the return to Les Corts is still unknown. “The pace of the works will allow us to make this return compatible,” Fort added. Barcelona’s idea, at least the idea that the Catalan entity makes public, is to preserve the original plan. “We are working to return at the end of the year, from here there are many factors. The exact day must be modulated,” concluded Fort. Jordi Sentellas, operations director of Espai Barça, completed: “The licenses are like this: the firefighters have already given the OK to the opening of the stadium, but the BSM from the City Council (Barcelona Municipal Services) is missing. We will have to verify everything that is being worked on.”
Elena Fort repeatedly avoided giving an exact date for the return to Camp Nou. However, he did assure that Barça Women will not play in Les Corts on December 18, on the last day of the Champions League group stage against Manchester City. There is only one game left to close the year: Barcelona’s men’s game against Atlético de Madrid on December 22. “I don’t want you to look for an exact date. We are on a good path, but in a project of this size we can only say that we are working to have the stadium ready before the end of the year.” The works, according to Barcelona, have an impact of one million euros per day. The stadium alone will cost the club 960 million and the total for Espai Barça (includes the new Palau Blaugrana) is valued at 1,450 million. “The contract with Limak is also being fulfilled on time,” Sentellas clarified. Of course, while the Barça entity emphasizes that the Camp Nou will be completed in the summer of 2026, there is still no scheduled date for the start of works at the Palau.
Barcelona’s exile to Montjuïc, according to the economic area, has had negative consequences of 100 million. Barça seeks to reduce losses as soon as possible, but will not seek extra income. “Our plan is not to do more concerts than those that were held before at the Camp Nou. The soundproofing is greatly improved compared to the old stadium. The few concerts that are held will have a low sound impact,” Sentellas explained. However, to reduce the economic impact, Barcelona will have new prices. In Montjuïc, with capacity for 50,000 people, prices range between 132 and 449 euros. When Barça moves to the Camp Nou, the capacity will be 62,000 spectators and tickets will cost between 260 and 755 euros. “We need income and we have to find a balance between affordable prices for members who access the passes and the way to exploit the new stadium,” Elena Fort concluded.
