We support the victims. We have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future. A couple of months ago, Danny’s family approached us and asked us to write character letters to represent the person we had known for 25 years so the judge could take that into consideration in regards to sentencing. The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system or the validity of the jury’s ruling. They were intended to be read by the judge and not to undermine the victims’ testimony or re-traumatize them in any way. We would never want to do that and we are sorry if that has happened. Our hearts go out to every person who has ever been a victim of sexual assault, sexual abuse or rape.

The apology of Mila and Ashton was harshly criticized by network users, arguing that the actors were reading a script and that it was possible to hear the pages turning through the clicks. Both actors have become the target of public ridicule and for the moment must keep a low profile until the dust settles, the classic move of stars in trouble in recent years. Here are some of the most scathing criticisms found on Twitter:

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis admit they were trying to protect a rapist from a harsh sentence. We honestly don’t want you to do any more work. Everything they do in the future is just part of an agenda. Please get into a hole and stay there.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis will never recover from this, no matter how much they apologize. Now the world knows that you have written letters to defend a now CONVICTED criminal.

Disrespectful, fuck Ashton and Mila. They talk as if someone was holding a gun to their heads to force them to write these letters. They could have said no. That would have shown his moral backbone to the survivors.

Silly excuse. They called Danny Masterson ‘a role model’ in his letter, knowing that he had just been convicted of rape. They have no regrets about defending this man. They are ashamed that the public found out.

Everyone keeps posting this and calling it ‘Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis apology video’. But not once in this video do they apologize for writing the letters. They also do not mention feeling any type of guilt or shame. They are only apologizing for the backlash, nothing more.
