An unfortunate news emerged this Saturday night in Tijuana, Mexico, after learning of the death of the Argentine boxing coach Diego Arrúa after suffering a devastating heart attack at the end of the fight between his wife, Sabrina “La Muñequita” Pérez and the Australian Skye Nicolson.
The event, which was captured by television cameras, was “a devastating heart attack” next to the ring and shortly before the fight ended, according to the doctors who assisted him at the Tijuana General Hospital. The Argentine boxer lost her World Boxing Council (WBC) interim featherweight title to the Australian by unanimous decision.
Arrúa was assisted by paramedics from the Fausto Gutiérrez municipal pavilion while the combat continued and was later transferred to the hospital.
“It is with deep sadness that we have been informed of the sudden death of Argentine coach Diego Arrúa, who suffered a devastating heart attack during the Sabrina Pérez fight in Tijuana. “The medical services did everything possible and he died at the General Hospital.”The president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaimán, reported in a statement.
The coach fainted with about a minute left in the fight. His death was declared upon arrival at the hospital.
