Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has fallen in the round of 32 at the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati. The Murcia native’s first appearance after winning silver at the Paris Olympics was thwarted by Frenchman Gael Monfils, who defeated him with a score of 4-6, 7-6(5) and 6-4. The Cincinnati tournament is the last hard court tournament before the US Open, which begins on August 26.
The second game of the match had some breaks that revived Alcaraz, but a bad run left him down 3-1. The Murcian became exasperated to the point of throwing his racket against the court. The Spaniard did not take advantage of any of the four break points he had, while Monfils was confident in maintaining the advantage. The other Spaniard who competed on the day, Pablo Carreño Busta, faced Alexander Zverev, but finally had to say goodbye to the competition after two long sets 7-5, 7-6(6).
