The actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón (Rome, 55 years old) will be the next Goya of Honor as announced this morning by the president of the Academy, Fernando Méndez-Leite. She will not be the youngest to take it (that was Antonio Banderas), but she will be the youngest woman to achieve it. And after 38 years of professional career (“Forty since I started,” she herself claims), she had only been a candidate for awards once, in 2021 with her character in Parallel mothers.
As president of the Academy for two years, she struggled to “get the palace” in which she herself has thanked the press for the honor. “It’s something I remember with great happiness.”
On previous occasions the Goya of Honor has gone to Juan Mariné (2024), Carlos Saura (2023), José Sacristán (2022), Ángela Molina (2021) or Marisol (2020). This recognition has been received by 30 men and eight women.
