A mystery, a sect and three characters in search of answers: ‘The Nameless’ becomes a series | Television

“Mom, it’s me, come get me.” Seven years after her daughter was presumed dead, a woman receives a call that turns her life upside down. That is the starting point of The namelessa novel that the British Ramsey Campbell published in 1981 and which served as the basis for Jaume Balagueró’s film debut in 1999. The story that the director of REC led towards terror and fantasy, now it will have a new rereading from the thriller psychological in a six-episode series led by Pau Freixas that will premiere in 2025 on Movistar Plus+.

The fiction, a project produced by Filmax that has been underway for about four years, with Pol Cortecans in charge of the scripts, and almost a year of pre-production, began filming on September 9 and will run until December 22 in different locations in Barcelona. The intention of the series is to move away from the film to focus on the mystery and search for answers in which the three protagonists of the plot are immersed. Miren Ibarguren plays Claudia, a gynecologist who is involved in a traffic accident in which a young woman will experience an apparent and inexplicable resurrection. Shortly after, her daughter disappears and is presumed dead. Seven years later, a pregnant Claudia again, and in the process of healing her wounds, receives a call from a girl: “Mom, it’s me, come get me.”

Rodrigo de la Serna plays the inspector who once led the case and who is now on the verge of social exclusion. Claudia will turn to him to help her in the search, which will lead them to a sect that seems to use children for some sinister purpose. The third central character is Milena Smit, who plays the young woman who was resurrected in that accident and whose life has been marked by the physical and emotional consequences of that event. “There are three characters for whom that event completely transformed them and left them emotionally ruined. The series also talks about how a woman of science, a gynecologist, a person of reason like the majority of us believe we are, needs to believe in something that is above what is natural to move forward and that behind it there is an answer that gives meaning to what happened,” explains Pau Freixas in a telephone conversation. In addition to the three protagonists, other actors such as Susi Sánchez, Elvira Mínguez, Ana Torrent, Eva Santolaria, Pablo Derqui, José Manuel Poga or the Frenchman Bastien Ughetto (creator of the series The collapse) will be among the large number of secondary characters that populate this story.

For Freixas, who had already worked with Movistar Plus+ in the two seasons of everyone liesthere are several elements that are key to his new series. On the one hand, it highlights the chapter endings that will invite the viewer to want to continue to discover what happens next. On the other hand, the emotional dramatic element provided by the development and relationships of the characters, combined all of this with the aforementioned intersection between faith and science. And there is also the mystery of the sect into which the story appears and flies over the characters.

In the first images shown by Movistar Plus+ you can see a saddened Miren Ibarguren in a children’s room. This is a very different record from the comedy that has made the actress famous. Aida and The one that is coming. Ibarguren didn’t seem like the most obvious choice for this character, but Freixas opted for her after having worked together on They all lie. “Beyond what is seen on the screen, when I met her I saw that in addition to that comedic appearance that she has when she pleases, she is a person with a very strong emotional capacity. For the viewer, I think it is pleasant to see actors that you don’t know that well or that, if you do know them, you haven’t seen them that much on that record. If you manage to make that leap, the viewer does not have the feeling of seeing the same thing. It is not the same series about a missing girl, it is another that has to do with a psychological journey, a component of faith and science, mystery…”, explains Freixas.

“I wanted to have actors who were attractive to the viewer, because I do see a virtue in creating links with actors you know on the other side of the screen, but at the same time not treading on the same ground that we have already trodden 40 times and that Don’t get the feeling that you’ve already seen this series. We achieved that with the actors, the tone, the appearance… And it seemed to us that Miren taken from her record was of enormous value, because people are fond of her and she has the talent to do something that has not been seen,” he concludes.
