The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into the owner of Valencia CF, Peter Lim, for document falsification and money laundering, as announced by the club’s former president, Miguel Zorío. Zorío himself denounced at the beginning of June that Lim had allegedly diverted money from the club to companies controlled by the Asian leader. Zorío assured that “if proven, they would show that Meriton – the company that owns the majority of the club’s shares – invoiced Valencia more than 23 million euros between 2022 and 2023 for services and figures that are not included in the accounts.”
The investigation is in an initial phase. According to Efe, the judges are gathering information regarding the accusations and the documentation presented by Zorío, to see if they proceed to archive them or continue with the investigation further. Zorío assures that Lim exchanged players above their market price. “Until now we have been able to demonstrate that in certain club signings, there was a brutal difference between the money that left Valencia CF and the money that finally reached the selling club (for example, the signing of Rodrigo, bought for 30 million plus 10 in variables to Benfica, and that only 13 million euros reached the Portuguese club, with Meriton Capital as an intermediary), according to the Lisbon Stock Exchange itself,” says Zorío.
For all these reasons, the former president, contrary to Lim’s management and who had already filed several complaints that were filed, demands that the City Council “immediately paralyze the processing of the new urban development of the Nou Mestalla” because with the data provided, Zorío continues, ” “The days of political and business blessings in Valencia must end now for Peter Lim and his team of executives.” “This has been a very hard job, for many years, but it finally seems to be bearing fruit. Peter Lim and his entire economic and sporting environment are being investigated by the Valencia anti-corruption prosecutor’s office,” Zorío concluded this Friday.
