At the Venice premiere of the film Joker: Folie à Deux, by Todd Phillips, starring Joaquin Phoenix and where Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn, the American singer described her character as “a complex woman who wants to be whoever she wants to be at all times.” When he finished filming he confessed, in one interview for the magazine Rolling Stone, that he felt like he “wasn’t done with Harley.” That was why, just three days ago, Gaga announced on her social networks the new album that she released today: Harlequinan album of 13 songs inspired by the character he plays in the film that will be released in Spain on October 4. It is a collection of jazz classics, such as Oh, When The Saints, Get Happy, That’s Life either That’s Entertainment, in Gaga’s voice.
And although some of the songs from Phillips’ film, a musical with reinterpretations of well-known titles, appear on the American singer’s album, this is not the film’s soundtrack, but rather a personal complement by the artist. The music for the film, as in the prequel, is by Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir and has already been published.
The release comes as a surprise, still during the promotion of the film and weeks before the premiere of the first single from her seventh studio album, already confirmed, which will arrive in full, according to the artist, in February of next year. During the first days of the week, Gaga dropped some clues on her social networks with phrases like “Don’t tell me what to wear” or “I’m ready for my interview,” and with signs that included the number 6.5, which already suggested a job. prior to the seventh official album, until now called LG7. An album that will represent the start of a new musical era for Gaga and that, according to Billboard, will include electronic sounds, guitars and rock elements. The New York singer described it, in the aforementioned interview for the American magazine, as something “completely new” and that means “everything” to her.
The two albums arrive after the also surprising release of Die with a Smilea single in collaboration with Bruno Mars, released last month. An end of the year full of music for the artist who, since 2021, with her collaboration with Tony Bennett on the album Love for salehad not released music. And he had not done it alone since 2020, with the publication of his last studio album, Chromaticwith which she had returned to the electronics that characterized her.
Harlequin is now available on all digital platforms, waiting for the sequel of jokerwhich arrived in Spanish cinemas five years after its predecessor.
