Rosalía gives ‘Omega’ to Barcelona at the Mercè pyromusical | News from Catalonia

It’s no mystery that Rosalía knows how to handle her speech and her image. Surprisingly, on the same day that the fireworks collection that closed Barcelona’s patron saint festivities was launched, she announced on Tuesday that her new single was among the songs that would be heard. Several birds with one stone: she is not premiering it on the Internet, nor in a concert, but in a festive context that reinforces the popular bias of her image and her music; she is giving Barcelona a new promotional line as a city and precisely in that city her role, prominence and charisma are reinforced. Not bad at all.

It didn’t take long for it to ring Omegaa song that, on the other hand, given its lightness and fragility, as well as the absence of a powerful rhythm, was difficult to hear among the natural roar of the fireworks. It came after an initial greeting from the artist, today in Paris, full of diminutives and affection. Then it sounded Disappointment among luminous palm trees and strobe effects, one of the four compositions of the pyromusical. And immediately after, the powerful subtlety of Omegaa song with a lot of guitar and acoustic accent, a chorus of contained passion, a touch of copla, flamenco accents and Latin perfumes when it is the turn of the protagonist Ralphie Choohis collaborator in this single that is said, from there Omegawhich could close a chapter with the fourth album that will include the song.

The piece, with a traditional air, in a ballad tone and with a production that does not seek dance dynamism and marked rhythms, seems a step further in the romanticism of the Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona) performance. By the way, Ralphie Choo is from Daimiel (Ciudad Real), and it made sense and grace that the outskirts joined hands at the end of the festivities of a capital, just at the moment when it is more like a town. Not even the crowd that followed the fireworks display on Avenida María Cristina made one think of a big city. And when everyone looks at the sky at the same time we all seem a little more like a town and a lot more like a child. Next year more, although without Rosalía.

Barcelona City Council has estimated that one million people have attended the shows scheduled for the Mercè festivities over the last three nights, which ended on Tuesday night with the traditional fireworks display. Barcelona’s Councillor for Culture and Creative Industries, Xavier Marcé, in an appearance to assess the festivities, highlighted the “exemplary behaviour from a civic point of view” of the citizens and the fact that there has been “nothing relevant in terms of security conflicts”.
