The Belgian cyclist Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) won the sixteenth stage of the Tour de France on Tuesday, contested between Gruissan and Nimes over 188.6 kilometres, with clear authority in the sprint in which the points leader Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) was unable to participate, having fallen on the approach to the finish line.
With this victory in Nimes, Philipsen equals Girmay’s three stage wins in this Tour de France, who will continue to lead the points classification, but who arrived at the finish line visibly hurt after a massive crash 1.6 kilometres from the finish line, in which he was involved.
