Secrets and Lies. United Kingdom, 1995 (140 minutes). Director: Mike Leigh. Cast: Timothy Spall, Brenda Blethyn, Phyllis Logan.
Mike Leigh once again portrays the miseries of contemporary society. Secrets and Lies It infiltrates the inner workings of a family to break down its relationships, and it does so by achieving the most complex thing: making the viewer almost another character in the play, shaken by the proximity of the conflicts, making what happens before their eyes life itself and making its meticulous dramatic reconstruction invisible. Secrets and Lies It is a disturbing, very hard, essential work.
