Alejandro Amenábar’s first series, The Fortune, has already set a release date. It will be in September 2021 when the six episodes of this blockbuster that mixes action and adventure can be seen, and of which EL PAÍS has released its first trailer.
Inspired by the comic The Black Swan Treasureby Paco Roca and Guillermo Corral, the series tells the story of the looting and recovery of a treasure found at the bottom of the sea, a story with similarities to what happened with the shipwreck of The Mercedes. Álvaro Mel plays the young and inexperienced diplomat Álex Ventura, who finds himself the leader of a mission that will put his convictions to the test: recover the underwater treasure stolen by Frank Wild, an adventurer who travels the world plundering the heritage of the depths of the sea. He will do so alongside Lucía, a civil servant played by Ana Polvorosa, and Jonas Pierce, an American lawyer. Stanley Tucci in the role of treasure hunter, Clarke Peters, T Nia Miller, Karra Elejalde, Manolo Solo, Blanca Portillo and Pedro Casablanc complete the cast.
The Black Swan Treasure (2018 Astiberri), rescues and reconstructs the history of the Spanish frigate Our Lady of the Mercedes, sunk in 1804 at Cape Santa Maria, off the coast of Portugal, by British ships that intended to steal its cargo of more than half a million gold and silver coins. Other graphic novels by Roca such as Wrinkles either Memoirs of a man in pajamas They have already been brought to the screen, in these cases in the form of a film.
Movistar+ produces the series in collaboration with AMCStudios and MOD Pictures. Amenábar himself is responsible for directing all the episodes of the fiction, which has Fernando Bovaira and Domingo Corral as producers and whose script he has co-written with Alejandro Hernández. In addition, at the beginning of 2022 it will arrive in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean through AMC+ and AMC.
