Some 50 migrants were kidnapped in the northern state of San Luis Potosí, where nearly a hundred foreigners who had also been kidnapped by criminal groups were rescued last month.
The mass kidnapping was confirmed Wednesday by Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who announced during his morning conference that National Guard agents were deployed to rescue the migrants.

In April, approximately 100 kidnap victims were rescued in the same region in an operation in which 20 were sought.
The ruler took the opportunity to call on migrants not to allow themselves to be manipulated by human traffickers and admitted that on their journey through Mexico “they take many risks”.
At the beginning of the month, 113 migrants of different nationalities were rescued in the northern town of San Luis Río Colorado, in the state of Sonora, following an investigation that began after the discovery of 10 Colombians who were kidnapped in that region and later released by their captors near a gas station.
The hundred migrants released were from the United States, India, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Nepal, Bangladesh, Cuba, Colombia and Afghanistan. In that operation, three Mexicans and two Hondurans were arrested for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of the migrants.
