A high school cheerleader was fatally shot while leaving a house party over the weekend in Arizona.according to the authorities.
According to a In a Phoenix Police Department press release, authorities identified the victim as Desiree Rivaswhile the suspect(s) remain at large.
Desiree, the 17-year-old high school student, was pronounced dead at the scene outside a Phoenix home just after midnight on Sunday, as reported by the local media KPNX-TV.
Her cheerleading squad at Cesar Chavez High School confirmed her death in a instagram post.
“It is with the greatest of hearts that I post about the tragic loss of our amazing friend, athlete, and student Desiree,” the team’s post read.
“Our hearts are broken into a million pieces. There will be additional counselors on campus to help us get through this tremendous loss. May Dessy rest in peace and be surrounded by love and light. We love you, Desiree,” the statement added.
During a vigil earlier this week for Desiree, the victim’s father called her “a beautiful person and an incredible soul. She was a role model for everyone. She was one of the people you wanted to be with,” according to the outlet.
Unfortunately, Police have not made any arrests in connection with this crime.but asked that anyone with information about the case call Phoenix Police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
